We’re in a great spot in the Tarentaise region of the Northern French Alps, just 2 hours from Geneva and Lyon airports, and 6km from the nearest train station (Aime La Plagne). The Tarentaise area offers an exceptional natural environment for skiing, walking, cycling and all kinds of mountain sports. Whether you’re touring the Alps, looking for an active mountain holiday, or just want to relax in one place and enjoy the local alpine scenery, it’s all right here on your doorstep.

If you fancy a rest day or prefer to take a more leisurely, car-based approach to your holiday, there are lots of places to explore and things to do nearby.

Outdoor mountain adventures

Skiing & snowboarding in Paradiski (Les Arcs + Peisey Vallandry + La Plagne)

Ferme Blanche offers quick access to excellent hiking, mountain biking and world class skiing. Located in a tiny unspoilt alpine hamlet just a few hundred metres below the ski resort of Plagne Montalbert as the crow flies, it is only 4km or 5 minutes drive to the lifts in our private shuttle (extra charge). There’s also a village ski bus in winter too.

Plagne Montalbert is a charming village ski resort, open in the summer for hiking and biking and in winter for downhill skiing. It has beautiful forest runs ideal for beginner and intermediate skiers. It is linked to Aime 2000 and the wide open spaces of the La Plagne (part of Paradiski) by a very fast gondola and a new chair lift.

The Paradiski domain rises to over 3400m and has around 420 kms of lift-connected slopes and more than 140 lifts. There are beautiful forest runs, several nursery areas, snowboard parks, and two glaciers. 70% of Paradiski is above 2000m and it is one of the largest bus-free ski areas in Europe.

Walking & Hiking holidays in the Alps

Wander through flower-filled meadows, explore unspoilt alpine villages or follow the 6000D Trek trail and hike up into the rugged mountains of La Plagne and the Vanoise National Park – all direct from our doorstep. We can recommend lots of local walks for all levels and lend you maps.

We also offer alpine self-guided walking holidays as a package – either with the farmhouse as your single centre hiking base, or taking a circular route staying in B&Bs along the way. You can walk with your dog too if wish! Our walking holidays include detailed walking notes, baggage porterage (for point to point / hotel to hotel walks), picnic lunches and evening meals. We’re happy to tailor-make an itinerary for you based on your interests, level and length of stay.

Road cycling in the Alps

We’re in a great spot for road cyclists who want to try some real mountain challenges. An easy ride from the farmhouse are the starts of some of the legendary col climbs of the French Alps, including the Col de la Madeleine, Col du Petit St Bernard and the Col de l’Iseran. The Tour de France regularly has stages starting or ending in Bourg St Maurice, just 15km along the valley.

If you prefer a gentler ride, try the 15km cycle path along the river Isere, just 6km down the hill from the house. Alternatively there are lots of little mountain roads you can follow, winding up through old stone villages and flower meadows. Bring your own bike, or hire one from one of the nearby specialists. They have e-bikes too if required. We can help with booking and delivery. We also do special catered alpine cycling holiday packages too, and can pick you up from the airport if required.

Mountain Biking

Les Arcs and La Plagne offer a massive choice of fabulous lift-accessed riding for both downhill and cross-country mountain bikers – and the lifts are less than 5 minutes drive from the farmhouse (uplifts can be provided for an extra charge). Les Arcs is also home to a Bike Park with purpose built North Shore, Slopestyle and Four Cross runs and 150km of way marked downhill routes.

For the more independently-minded, there are also hundreds of miles of beautiful alpine tracks through forests, glacial valleys and farming villages. If technical single track descents are your thing, there is a huge amount in the mountains and forests of La Plagne behind the house. Much is lift-accessible in season (July and August). We also have close contacts with several excellent local guides who will take you out on hidden trails for a half day, day or even a week.

White water rafting & kayaking

The fast and furious Isere river runs along the edge of Aime and is used for white water rafting and hydrospeed in summer. Take a trip with H2O or France Raft, our rafting partners. They’ve both got fab purpose-built bases by the river, complete with riverside cafes. The river is popular with paddlers too, but you have to be good, it’s a training course for European teams! The canoe / kayak world championships are frequently held a bit further along the valley at the kayaking centre (Base International d’Eau-Vive) in Bourg St Maurice.
